THE QUEEN'S PLATE
Peteski led every step of the way and won the 10-furlong Queen's Plate-G1C
by six lengths, leaving 10 of Canada's best 3-year-olds strung out
more than 25 lengths behind him.
In Fort Erie's Prince of Wales Stakes-G1C, the second leg of the Triple
Crown, Peteski ran a different race, but with end results that were
patently familiar. After laying just off the pace through the early
furlongs, he shot to the lead in the stretch and drew off to yet another
open-air victory, recording the fastest 1 3/16 miles ever run at the
96-year-old track.
Not only did Peteski's time of 1:54 2/5 smash a 23-year-old track
standard by 1 3/5 seconds, set by an older horse six pounds lighter,
it also erased the Attfield-trained champion Izvestia's stakes mark
by a full two seconds.
